Why it matters
Young athletes
change fast.
Growth spurts, changing training loads and a busy season all shape how a young athlete's body adapts. Often nobody knows exactly where they stand physically, or what they need right now — not the athlete, not the parent, and not even a good coach with a whole squad to look after.
So training turns into guesswork: a generic programme, a routine borrowed from adult training, or simply "more of the same" — and progress can stall.
K Performance replaces the guesswork with a clear picture: where your child stands, what's going well, and the few things worth focusing on next — whatever sport they play. I work particularly with junior rowers and rugby players.
What actually happens
Three steps from guesswork to a clear plan.
Assess: a structured assessment in Leigh Woods
Strength and left/right symmetry, jump and sprint performance, a movement screen, a growth-stage (maturation) check, and a fitness test suited to their sport. Based in a dedicated testing space, with nearby Ashton Court used for the endurance test. You're there throughout.
A written report — not just numbers
Two genuine strengths, the three things most worth working on next, and why those three, in plain English. Hand it straight to their coach — or, if they don't have a strength and conditioning coach, I can write an 8- or 12-week programme for them to follow, or coach them one to one.
See what's changed
Usually 8–12 weeks later we repeat the same tests and compare against last time, then update the priorities for the next block.
In the report
- —Two genuine strengths, named specifically
- —The three priorities most worth working on next
- —Why those three, explained in plain English
- —Numbers with context — not just a printout

About
Hi, I'm Mike. I've spent 7+ years helping young athletes get better.
I've coached young athletes for over seven years, including leading junior strength & conditioning at City of Bristol Rowing Club, working with 12–18-year-olds through full training seasons.
I know the questions parents ask: Is my child doing too much, or not enough? Is this ache normal? Is all this training actually making a difference? This assessment grew out of those conversations. It answers them with real measurements instead of guesswork.
The tests are drawn from published research on youth athlete development, and I'll always tell you what the numbers mean — and what they don't.
I'm also a Soft Tissue Therapist, offering sports and remedial massage on Fridays: mornings at Bristol Osteopaths, Queen Charlotte Street, and from November, afternoons at Kliniko, Long Ashton Business Park.

Built for the long game
Healthy, confident athletes who keep loving their sport.
Quick wins are great. What really matters is a young athlete who's still strong, healthy and enjoying their sport at 18 and beyond. Everything K Performance does is built around that.
